Hi there! I am Hao Duan, a Ph.D. candidate in statistics at University of California, Los Angeles. I am very fortunate to be advised by Professor Guido Montúfar. My research focuses on statistical learning theory, with an emphasis on models that preserve the inherent symmetries of data. I also collaborated with Professor Minjeong Jeon to develop efficient variational Bayesian methods for diagnostic classification models.
I was born and raised in Shanghai, where I spent my childhood and teenage years before embarking on my academic journey in the United States. I earned a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of Chicago, building upon my undergraduate study at Emory University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. You can download my CV here.
Beyond mathematics and statistics, I enjoy playing soccer and badminton, swimming, and hiking. Feel free to reach out to me by email.
